Bar Spoon

A long twisted handle for stirring and layering

Serve stage
Bar Spoon — illustrated reference plate
Specification
What it doesStirs a drink in a mixing glass with minimal aeration, measures small volumes with the bowl, and guides liquid when layering a drink down the shaft.
Length30–40 cm. It has to reach the bottom of a mixing glass with the hand clear of the rim.
The twistThe twisted shaft is not decoration: it is what you pour down when floating a layer, and it gives grip when stirring.
BowlThe bowl is roughly a teaspoon, which makes it a measuring tool as well as a stirring one.
Stirring techniqueHold the shaft between thumb and forefinger, keep the bowl against the base of the glass, and stir in smooth circles for 15–20 seconds.
Not a muddlerA spoon will not crush fruit or herbs; that is a different tool.

Overview

A very long spoon with a twisted shaft and a small bowl. It stirs without agitating, measures a teaspoon, and layers spirits by pouring down the twist.

Cold Brew
Safety

A long, thin spoon in a glass is a lever. Do not force it against the side of the glass, and never stir a drink in a glass with a chip or crack in the rim.
