Dosing Cup — illustrated reference plate
Specification
What it doesCatches the ground dose, lets you weigh it, and pours it into the basket with control.
Single dosingWhen you weigh beans in and grind per shot, a cup is what makes the workflow possible without a hopper.
FitShould sit under the grinder forks without wobbling and pour without dribbling over the rim.
CapacityComfortably above the largest dose you use — usually 20–30 g.
MaterialStainless or aluminium. A light cup with a thin rim is the one that drips.
Anti-staticA cup with a slightly rougher interior finish holds less static cling than a mirror-polished one.

Overview

A small metal cup that sits under the grinder and then pours into the basket. Essential for single dosing and for keeping the counter clean.

Safety

A cup left under a running grinder fills and overflows silently. Never walk away mid-grind, and keep the cup centred on the forks.

What actually goes wrong

  • Weigh the beans into the cup, grind, then weigh the grounds — the difference is your retention.
  • A cup with a pour spout is worth more than one that is merely round.
  • Rinse it daily; old oils in a dosing cup taint the next dose.

What it has to match up with

  • Burr grinder
  • Coffee scale
  • Dosing funnel
